YouTube Expands “Get Feedback” Tool for Shorts

YouTube Expands “Get Feedback” Tool for Shorts

YouTube is rolling out its Get Feedback feature to more U.S. creators over 18 who use the main YouTube app on Android or iPhone.

What Is Get Feedback?

  • Tool purpose – Provides an analysis of a Short’s hook, pacing, visuals, and more, offering suggestions for improvement without making automatic edits.
  • Location in the app – Appears as a button on the Add Details screen during the regular Shorts upload flow.
  • Optional use – Creators can choose whether to view and apply the feedback; the tool does not edit videos on its own.

How It Works (According to Creator Insider)

  • In a Creator Insider video (published September 9), YouTube liaison Rene Ritchie explains that the guidance covers:

    • Strength of the hook
    • Pacing
    • Visual quality
  • Example shown: a news‑update Short received praise for delivery and audio, with suggestions to add cutaway visuals or screen recordings.

  • Creators can revisit the feedback and refine their Shorts before publishing.

Earlier Rollout & Related Experiment

  • August 24 – YouTube CEO Neal Mohan announced the tool on X, mentioning an unlisted‑draft workflow for tailored suggestions on hooks, pacing, and structure.

  • The September 9 video and Help page instead describe a button inside the upload flow; neither mentions unlisted drafts.

  • VibeCheck – A separate experiment in YouTube Labs described as an AI coach for Shorts (pacing, hooks, lighting) accessed via a “Try VibeCheck” button on the Add Details page. The source does not confirm a link between VibeCheck and Get Feedback, nor does it label Get Feedback as AI‑powered.

Why It Matters

  • Timing – Audience‑performance data is only available after publishing, whereas Get Feedback offers guidance beforehand.
  • No guaranteed results – The announcement does not claim the suggestions predict views or improve performance; they supplement, not replace, retention and engagement metrics you already track.

Looking Ahead

  • The feature is still expanding, so not every eligible creator may see the button yet.
  • The current rollout is limited to the United States, mobile app users, and does not include desktop, YouTube Studio, or other countries.
  • How the suggestions are generated remains undisclosed.
